Senior Seminar Experience

PURPOSE:

The purpose of the Senior Seminar experience is to provide our seniors with a different, yet focused, learning experience in the broader community. It is an opportunity to experience the adult world either through the exploration of a profession, a vocation, or a social justice program. This is directly in line with our mission statement “…students are encouraged to develop increased respect for the dignity of the individual through service to the local and wider community…” It follows the recommendations of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges to become more involved with our communities, as well as the encouragement of the Diocesan Schools Office to give our students an organized and directed experience of the greater community.

PROGRAM OUTLINE:

Students will work with a teacher/moderator on campus during the third quarter to explore possibilities. By the end of March students will have confirmed their Seminar location and duties. The Seminar itself will take place during 2 weeks in early May – 5 hours per day with times suitable to the specific workplace and student commitments to sports and extracurricular activities. During the last week in May, all seniors will make presentations of their experience to the senior class and faculty. This is a new graduation requirement.
